Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center is proud to be a member of our local communities. And as healthcare professionals, we see it as our duty to continue building the strongest possible medical center for the communities we serve. Along with providing patients compassionate and quality focused care, we see the importance in offering support to our community far beyond just healthcare.
When it comes to healthcare, PBRMC is constantly striving to offer new services and technologies to support the ongoing needs of individuals within our community, diminishing the need to travel far distances for medical care. Within recent years, we have expanded our service lines to include 24 hours per day / 7 days a week interventional cardiology, nephrology, interventional radiology, increased psychiatric services, and the addition of our new wound care center. Although we have made great strides, we are continually working towards further expansion of our service lines to help you and your loved ones and to meet our vision of being the healthcare provider of choice in Southeast Missouri.
It is in the best interests of Poplar Bluff and our neighboring communities that this health care system continues to grow and thrive. By being one of the largest employers in the area, PBRMC is able to be a strong supporter of employment opportunities within our community. We employ more than 1,400 individuals, equaling to more than $51 million a year paid in salaries and benefits. Beyond our employee investment, PBRMC strives to be a strong financial contributor in many other ways. With a for-profit status, our community is able to benefit from the local taxes we pay each year, which equaled over $625,000 in 2007. And in only two years of time, PBRMC spent more than $15 million in capital investments, which not only improves the care patients receive within our hospital, but helps to increase the financial stability of our community.
We also take great pride in being a strong contributor to our local schools and not-for-profit organizations through monetary donations and countless volunteer hours. In 2007, we were able to provide more than $120,000 to various organizations, including major sponsorships of the local Heart Walk, Relay for Life event, UCAN, Boys and Girls Club, MH Art Museum, and many local schools and sports programs.
We feel our community deserves no less than the best healthcare available. To help in achieving this goal, we continue to build strong partnerships with other community medical facilities working towards the same objective - to keep healthcare in Poplar Bluff and to leave little need for the majority of patients to ever leave our community to receive care.
