Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center volunteers are a precious resource who come from all walks of life. They help patients, their families and our communities. Our volunteers’ hours and responsibilities are as varied as the volunteers themselves.
Our volunteer services has numerous service opportunities including the following:
- Information Desk. Volunteers meet and greet the public, assist patients’ family and friends with room information, and deliver patient mail and newspapers. They also help facilitate our Badge of Care visitor’s pass program. The information desk volunteer’s greeting provides hospital visitors with that important “first impression.” Being an information desk volunteer is very rewarding, and the only experience you need is a great big smile!
- United Cancer Assistance Network (UCAN). UCAN volunteers know what it’s like to battle cancer. Each has been touched by the disease either as a survivor, or as the family member or friend of someone who has fought the battle against cancer. They maintain informational and educational video libraries; stock hats, wigs, scarves and turbans; visit patients and their families; direct support programs and assist with fund-raising campaigns.
- Waiting Rooms. Waiting room volunteers act as liaisons with hospital staff, keeping visitors and family members informed of our patients’ status. In addition, they provide hospitality to these visitors by serving refreshments as well as compassion and concern.
- Gift Shops. Our gift shops are operated exclusively by volunteers. Profits fund scholarship programs, community health education activities and special services to enhance patient care and make stays more comfortable and enjoyable. Our gift shop volunteers provide sales assistance to our customers and participate in stocking and display activities.
- Public Relations and Community Service Projects. Volunteers serve as hosts/hostesses at activities such as open house events and at blood drives, for example.
- Administration Services. Volunteers provide office assistance when needed. Such duties may include filing, computer work, making photocopies and answering phones.
