Top Ranking Telemetry Services

Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center (PBRMC) recently expanded telemetry monitoring services to all acute inpatient units, previously only available to patients in the Intensive Care Unit.  This major technological expansion provides many benefits to hospital patients and expands availability of telemetry services to an increased number of patients.

Telemetry monitoring allows physicians and nursing staff to constantly monitor a patient’s heart rate and rhythm from a central location to quickly identify any irregularities or possible problems.  Telemetry monitoring is typically used for cardiac patients, but is also used for a variety of other medical reasons.  Reasons may include patients who are considered at high risk to develop complications, whether from illness, injury or post-operative procedures.

The Spacelabs Telemetry Monitoring system, installed through a wireless connection at PBRMC, recently earned the highest customer satisfaction rating nationwide when compared against other telemetry systems, according to MD Buyline’s April 2010 report.  In this most recent survey, the Spacelabs Telemetry Monitors rank highest in all categories, including system performance and reliability.

“The expansion of the telemetry monitoring services offers benefits to everyone involved, ultimately improving the level of care we are able to provide,” said Tina Jones, Chief Nursing Officer at PBRMC.

Spacelabs Healthcare pioneered telemetry in 1958 when tasked with monitoring the vital signs of NASA’s Gemini astronauts, and then was the very first to introduce telemetry to hospitals.  “Our goal is to offer our patients the best services available, and the Spacelab Monitors certainly help us in meeting that goal,” said Jones.
