PBRMC Receives Accreditation from the Commission on Cancer

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (June 27, 2012) - At Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, we are committed to providing the highest level of health care for our community and delivering on the promise to Care For Our Future. As evidence of that promise, it is with a great deal of pride that PBRMC announces our Cancer Center has again been granted a 3-year Accreditation with Commendation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

To achieve accreditation the Danny Bell Radiation Oncology Center demonstrated a Commendation level of excellence in a cancer program including leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research community outreach and quality improvement.

Receiving care at a Commission on Cancer accredited program ensures that patients will have access to:

• Comprehensive care, including a range of state of the art services and equipment
• A multispecialty, team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
• Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
• Access to cancer-related information, education and support
• A cancer registry that collects data on type and stage of cancers and treatment results and offers lifelong patient follow up programs
• Ongoing monitoring and improvement of care
• And most importantly-quality care close to home.

Only about 30 percent of all hospitals have this accreditation, and those hospitals treat 80 percent of newly diagnosed cancer patients. The American Cancer Society estimates that 1.6 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in 2012.
